New Years Day

January 1, 2014.  New Years Day.

Although it was another holiday spent in the hospital, I didn't care.  I was only focused on the fact that January had arrived and I could see the 9th day of January finally on the calendar.  This day marked 23 weeks of pregnancy in which our babies would have a chance to live.  I calculated it long ago when I was told I needed to at least make it to 23 weeks.

Well now I was only 8 days away from our first milestone. 8 days!  I could hardly wait.  Dr. Brown told me that if I made it to January 9th, then he would go ahead and proceed with a betamethasone shot that would allow our babies lungs to develop quickly.

Although we were hoping for gestation much further than 23 weeks, as we had been told that babies who are born that early are at a much higher risk for disability,  we were excited for week 23.  It was so close we could taste it.

Our emotions were stable and our hope ever increasing.
