The anesthesiologist was the first face we saw. After I was situated and comfortable on that table, he went to work. An IV was inserted in my arm and when Dr. Foulk made an appearance, those drugs started a flowin'. That's the best sleep you'll ever get!
When the procedure was done, I walked down the short hallway to the recovery room. I was still quite loopy. Logan came into the room to wait with me and we patiently waited to hear the report on my eggs. It didn't take long for Dr. Foulk to return and tell us that he retrieved 42 eggs!! Yes! Success in my book!
An hour later my eggs would be combined with Logan's sperm. Fingers crossed!
The next 5 days were important ones. The embryologist would call us every day to let us know how our embryos were doing. I was excited for each call. During the first call the embryologist told me that 27 of my eggs had been fertilized. The next few calls were good too. Much more complicated though. I felt like the embryologist was speaking a different language! I surely asked lots of questions but still couldn't make sense of it all.
We wouldn't know exactly how many good embryos we were going to end up with until Day 5, embryo transfer day, when Dr. Foulk would, once again, put our precious little embryos inside Emily.
And, just for some laughs--because who can get through this process without laughing just a little? Below is a picture Logan took for me, that day, of the sink that's inside the men's 'special' room at Utah Fertility. Ha ha!
