We were a bit under the gun to get this contract done. After all, Emily and I were ready to get this party started! We felt like we had waited long enough! And, Emily already had her first and second appointments at Utah Fertility. Her cycle calendar was already in her hand! We were ready to go! And, we were told we needed to have our contract signed on the dotted line by the day of the embryo transfer.
I went back and forth with this lawyer for weeks. She was a bit difficult to deal with. I spoke mostly to her assistant. I also was told that Logan and I, along with Emily and her hubby all needed to have a psychological evaluation completed. Each of us got that scheduled and done really quickly.
In weeks to come we were delayed two separate times in this process. Dr. Foulk needed to "tweak" Emily's body just a bit. I know Emily would be willing to give you details because she's so open and honest like that--and not shy at all (I've heard her say to Logan numerous times "Logan, my uterus is your uterus!") Isn't that awesome! What an amazing attitude! I though, will keep all the details private, for Emily, even if she told me not to! Love ya friend.
But alas, a couple weeks later, she was ready! It was full speed ahead!
To make a very looonnnng story short, months after I had my first conversation with this lawyer, we had the first draft of the gestational carrier contract in our hands.
It was to be read through by Logan and me and then read through by Emily and Mike. And then finally, signed by all four of us.
To be honest, Emily and I have known each other for 10 years now and we took this contract pretty lightly. This whole process for us has been very transparent from the get go, just as we wanted it. To us, this contract was just another task to check off our list before we could get to the good stuff.
