Our meeting with Tonya, our IVF coordinator was actually really great. We knew IVF involved some medications and some shots--little did we know to what extent. Holy cow! Tonya laid the color coded calendar down on the desk in front of me and Logan. I think my eyes swelled! What did we get ourselves into?! She slowly walked us through each day of each month. All I have to say is good thing my smart hubby was there to clarify for me! I still don't understand what this means and the math behind it: No less than two and no more than five days of abstinence. Logan explained it to me about four times over a couple days before I just gave up and said "Well whatever, as long as you know what it means!" Dont laugh! I think my brain was just on overload. Logan kept it calm, cool and collected.
I also left that day with TEN appointments scheduled! Yes, ten!! I immediately thought about work. How could I get away for ten doctors appointments and leave them hanging? I felt horrible but knew it had to be done. At work I marked my week day appointments on the schedule. And, let me just say, what a great and supportive group of people I work with. I did not see one person roll their eyes, criticize or speak badly of me for all the time I was taking off. They only asked what they could do to help and wanted me to know that they would work things out. How awesome is that!?
Below is a copy of our calendar. At first glance I'd say it's pretty overwhelming. But now, I'm a pro! Ask me anything and I can tell you the answer.
A week or so later, we returned for some shot instructions. There were so many different drugs (shots) and ways to dispense those drugs. Not to mention we had to make sure I gave myself (and sometimes Logan) the correct dosage at the correct time of day. That didn't even include the hoard of pills I popped everyday.
Holy IVF!
Although I continue to talk about how much there was to do, I was so ready to get started. I was flooded with excitement. The minute we got home, the calander went up on our fridge. I started my prenatal vitamins that very day. Yes!
