Dr. Peterson indicated that he would be willing to do up to three IUI treatments before he felt at that point we would need something more agressive (IVF).
IUI it was. Where do we sign up?
Knowing my sister Kendra had gotten pregnant with IUI, I was very hopeful. Very hopeful. If she and I have the same issues, and this worked for her, of course it would work for me!
Once again I began the process about three weeks prior in taking medication that would make my body do what it was supposed to do. Yuck. I hate taking all those meds. But, I knew it'd be worth it. More preparation came in those three weeks including a sono-hist or water ultra-sound that is done to check for any pollups or block tubes in the uterus. Mine was clear. Thank goodness.
We scheduled our first IUI treatment. Logan and I went in together anticipating an extensive procedure. Logan was up first. Then an hour and a half later they called me back to confirm the sample they had for me was in fact meant for me. The IUI procedure involves sticking a catheter inside you, allowing it to pass the cervix and inserting the specimen. In clearer terms, we were cutting in half the distance the sperm needed to swim to meet the egg. I was shocked by how easy and painless it was. So easy in fact that the nurses perform this procedure.
Then came the most difficult part. Waiting. Waiting is the worst. Then after 2 weeks pass and you receive another "you suck" sign on your pregnancy test, hopes are dashed and total defeat sets in.
Logan and I completed this procedure twice--both times unsuccessful.
