Would you believe me if I told you that these absolutely precious
gifts showed up on my doorstep yesterday?! They came all bundled up in
a box shipped from Meridian, Idaho. You see, I have this friend. Her
name is Mikell. She was my roommate at Ricks college until we graduated
in 2001. And she is the amazing woman behind these beautiful birth
records for Lexie & Luke.
To think of the time and effort she put into these while chasing her
three little kids around is just beyond me. What an incredible gift
given to us by a person with just as incredible a heart. I am beyond
touched and amazed by her generosity, sacrifice and love. Truly I will
think of sweet Luke & Lexie every time I look at them. I will
cherish them forever--and also the friend that gave us such a wonderful
gift.
I hope she is okay with me sharing the short note she tucked into the
package. I share it here only to have a record of it, and also to share
it with our future children one day.
Dear Logan & Brooke,
I have thought long and hard about what to say, but nothing comes to
mind. I am terrible with words, especially when it involves expressing
emotion. I have thought about both of you and your precious babies
every day for the past few months. I am so very sorry for your
struggles. Nobody in the world deserves the pain that comes from
infertility (which I can only imagine), especially not you. I am in awe
of your faith and love as you've forget through these challenges. I
have thought about what special people you are. Brooke, I could no have
asked for a better roommate! I still laugh at so many of the fun
things you did, like the time you tried on my pants! Logan, I don't
know you obviously, but I appreciate the husband you have been to a dear
friend of mine. You've both been an example as you've clung to each
other instead of letting the adversary tear you apart. There is nothing
I can say that will fix anything, and probably nothing I can say that
you haven't already heard. Please just know that I love you. I
appreciate the opportunity to make these birth records for you. I hope
they are something that you will always be able to cherish and will
bring you joy rather than sorrow. My thoughts and prayers are with you,
often!
With Love,
Mikell
