My mom just dropped my dad at the airport to fly back to CA. He's been here for about ten days helping in every way possible. My mom has been here for SIX AND A HALF weeks now. Can you believe that?! How many people do you know that are blessed enough to have their mom leave her comfortable and normal life hundreds of miles away, to come to Utah to help her son-in-law and pregnant daughter in every way imaginable?! Well, the answer is me. How INCREDIBLY grateful I am.
In my last post I indicated that I was to go in to have a small surgical procedure done by my OB. It's called a cervical cerclage-- you know, where the doctor stitches up your cervix? This procedure is done for patients who suffer from an incompetent cervix, which my doc believed I did.
Well, one day prior to my surgery I learned that I had to get a new OB! I WAS SICK. Dr Terry knew my history and had a plan for me, one we came up with together. I was completely comfortable with him, knew of his fabulous reputation, and now I was being told I needed to find a new doctor?!? What?! Who switches doctors when they are 13 weeks pregnant?! Especially, during a high risk pregnancy?
Come to find out that Dr Terry himself is contracted with Blue Cross Blue Shield, but the hospital he works from is not. If I would have had Dr Terry do my cerclage at IMC, insurance would have paid nothing. And if I would have delivered there, well...we would have been responsible for the entire hospital bill. We have already sacrified thousands to get where we are, and adding an outrageous hospital bill to that was just unrealistic.
So...Dr Terry referred me to a doctor friend that he was comfortable with and had known for years. The very next day I met Dr. Brown.
And, the very next day after that, Dr. Brown performed my cerclage at St. Marks hospital. Talk about a test of faith. We (Logan and I) were putting ourselves and our future unborn child into this Drs hands-- a doctor I had met with for only a half hour of my life. Scary stuff!
The night before the surgery I prayed and asked The Lord to bless my doctor and the hands of my doctor. I prayed that our surgery would have a great outcome--good tissue, a high stitch, and no puncture of any membranes. I prayed that Dr. Brown would make the best choices on our behalf.
My prayers were answered again. The surgery went very well and the doctor was pleased with the amount of tissue and how high he was able to place the purse string stitch. I went home a couple hours later just praying that this procedure would help us carry our pregnancy as long as possible.
Please Heavenly Father. Please.
